I haven't been very active on here, and I have a web site that has a blog feature on it. I will be closing this blog down soon.

You can follow me on my site: http://bconsugar.webs.com/

I will leave this here for a few more days.

Lessons learned and moving forward

Still trucking along on lesson 7. I think I have it worked out now. Tonight I hope to spend some time with it. I want to work through some of the revising. I have over 1200 words (I think last count was 1256 or so!). Lesson 7 calls for 1200, and I want to stick to that (as best I can, of course!). My MC has an interesting situation. An ordinary event that takes place in classrooms almost every day turns into what she thinks is a disaster. What does her teacher think? How does MC react to the "little things" that keep happening? I think THOSE details are worked out.

This assignment has taught me a lot. I think I finally learned a writing technique that works for me. I wonder what took me so long to figure out this part of it? I think my most recent reading of Stephen King's "On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft" may have turned on a few light bulbs for me. I must write to Mr. King via his web site to let him know that he has helped me tremendously!

I have also learned the value of PATIENCE! Patience is a virtue that I lack. I need to find out where to get more of that!

Well, that's it for now. I hope to be posting on here more frequently. I need to make this a part of my writing "schedule".

It's been a while....

I just got back assignment 6 (yes, I realize I haven't posted in months!). My instructor feels that I have a good idea (good start!), but that's all I have. I have no plot. This is disappointing, but I know that if I sit with this for a few days, I can do better. I need to come up with a different way of writing fiction. If anyone has an ideas, I am open to what you have to offer!

I hope to widen my focus in writing. Widen? Why would I do that? First, to get experience. That's the only way I can better. Second, to open myself to all the possibilities that writing has to offer.

That's all for now. I will make an effort to post more often. Hey, it's experience in writing, isn't it?

First and second assignments

I started taking a correspondence course through the Institute of Childrens Literature (www.institutechildrenslit.com). I submitted assignment 1 and got the review comments from my instructor. Not bad for a first try, but now I know where I need to work the most. This has been fun, but it sure is a lot of work. It's been an adventure so far.

I am currently working on assignment 2. It's been a true challenge, but I think I finally have a nice plot, and a great conflict to work with. Now I just need to finish working up my first draft. Once that is done, I will put it aside for a day or two, then come back and start working on editing the work. I figure if I can get through at least the most basic of editing issues, then my instructor and I can work on getting to the meat of the lessons, and really start turning out some work that I might be able to submit to publishers.

And, we're off on another (mis)adventure!

(Mis)adventures will now begin!

This the the first post on my new blog - my blog about my writing. It will be short for now. I hope to post here at least once a month with my progress. Until later, I am signing off.
